"I feel that it is a screw job. No Shopping Agent that I have heard of requires both a commission on the advance, plus a cut of the royalties."

I think your problem here is that you're sizing 1sound up by your own chosen specs. They actually provide a much more comprehensive situation than to be compared to someplace that is solely a shopping agent. So you're kind of hammering your point home with reference points that aren't specific to your target.

How many shopping agents provide the service of listening to every one of your songs a number of times and grading them ? And provide free bandwidth for your songs ? And provide a blog environment to expose your music to ?

Now I got my gripes with 1sound too but your point isn't really a good one.

If you had any idea about the sum of $$$ that could be the commission then you would know that it's way out of proportion to anything that you have just noted.

it's still a potential deal for 50 bucks that you may not have gotten.

50 bucks for some good financial possibility is not that much to spend.

Agreed. 50 bucks is nothing.

Do you know how many music sites out there want your bucks to have the chance to 'expose' your music to the right person? LOADS!! For a long time. I can't be bothered to list them here but you know that there are. 1sound isn't the cheapest or the most expensive either.

We're all waiting to hear about anyone who has been successful after paying a company to 'expose' their music. Go go go go! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :banana

by people offering to shop my music for a fee. I'm stuck for choice in fact.

I'll probably look into it when Ignition releases its CD.

Judging by the number of artists/musicians who think this is a viable way to go, I'm seriously thinking of setting up a section of Shazza Music to charge musicians for taking songs to record companies. How much would you all pay?

It's amazing that most of you don't understand the concept of advances and royalties. The $50 is a pitance compared to the commission.

I have been a Shopping Agent for over two years. I do know what is involved and how things work. Taking a CD or sending one to a label isn't as simple as it seems. Getting an actual offer isn't so easy either. There are levels of people within labels. Oh,well, if interested do the research.

"E" also owes my late father $50 for wiring the sound system at Graceland in the late 50's. All I got out of it was a piece of pink carpet. maybe i should ask lisa marie for it with interest.:toc
