I'm glad you like the live recording Drooly Mutt :) ))

Errrrr.... we (the band) surprised BB-Chris a bit... as we did practice her song the day before... but totally changed the middle part (the double tempo) during the gig :D :D :D :D

I will never forget how she turned her head around to the band, away from the crowd, when we played it ! :LOL :lol :lol :lol

Thanks for listening and the compliment ;)

DreamTone7... BB-Chris was not prepared that we take her really to a gig... so she came without her own guitar and I borrowed her my Fender Stratocaster.

As I like to play at high volume with a Hughes&Kettner stereo amplification setup, I had no nerves to deal with the nasty feedbacks and ear-destroying sound (for my taste) of the original single coils.

Therefore I replaced them with Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails-PickUp's.

The SHR-1 are very high output humbuckers in single coil format and therefore I adjusted the front pickup lower and with an unusual angle (like the others), because the output was simply too hot... to achieve a good balance of all three pick-up's and single strings. It looks weird but plays smoothly :D :D :D The best is, the guitar really is silent when turning down the volume... with the single coils..... hum and hiss to the max :mad : :D ;)

MIKE

I just noticed what you said about the pickups, Dream...

That Is strange.....

You seem very astute about Tone.......

Speaking of which... - one of the best Tone tricks I've ever heard was the way SRV tuned down to Eb..

It was a stroke of genius on his part - the perfect key for him...

By the way.. Do you know what his set-up was? I read it years ago, but I forget...

I'm considering doing a cover of "Pride and Joy" with the band..

...was a HENDRIX trick !!! And he, no doubt, learned that "trick" from the old blues guys he listened to.

Hendrix played in Eb too?

I knew SRV studied Jimi, but I didn't know Jimi played in Eb..

And I'm sure Jimi learned from the boys that came before him...

Ain't Roots the Grandest thing???

I guess respecting your elders is a good thing...

I think I'm older than you, Larree....

lol...

Just kidding, pal...

lol again...

WOW! What an interesting thread this has turned into! I didn't even know Mike had done that to his guitar! hahahahahaha And what's all this Eb business. Oh when I was in Singapore Joe Satriani played in Hong Kong, grrrrrrrrr I would have gone to see him!

George Benson is playing next month in Hong Kong, should I go see him?!?!?

Here's another photo of my strat:

George Benson is a very mellow player... - he does some really neat stuff with Octaves....

It's real nice once in a while....

You would probably enjoy hearing/seeing him....

That is a beautiful Strat drooley. I have a couple....one of them (an '88) looks almost exactly like chris' Strat except I have a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck humbucker in the bridge postion.

...actually I'm more of an amp doctor than a guitar doctor. But in the search for the perfect tone, the tone begins with the guitar.

....oh, and for SRV, he used 13-56 strings....that's the first trick. Then add in the alder Strat and try using an old Fender Vibroverb (the one with the single 15" speaker). For voodoo chile, try a BF Super Reverb cranked up.

I use 10-50 strings which is sort of middle of the road, but still has plenty of tension as I use standard tuning. Eb seems to give more mids, and will be better on some Strats, worse on others.

Remember...Tone begins in the mind.

Dreamtone7 - thank you so much for your tips of information. I use the lightest strings possible but I feel I must test out heavier strings :) My Fender has a floating bridge so if I break a string, it all goes out of tune. Is this good/bad?!?! Have you got a photo of YOUR guitar?
