...and be a substitute for all "unworthy" muslims worldwide.

You know, I think the muslim world thinks that Saddam was a dictator, but they feel shame for their own culture when seeing how somebody out of their own culture is presented by a "civilized" country.

Look:

Why don't the U.S. show him naked or while putting a light in his back?

I would call this fatal wrong "marketing".

That's just my "feeling" about it, while Bremer prolly announced to the Iraqi people that "you may have a chance for democracy now", overviewing that the majority of the Iraqi people maybe have something better in mind from their own perspective, than McDonald's, Hollywood movies and a moneyhungry ellbow society.

IMHO :)

But it's really the Iraqi's day! The fine men and women of the coalition and the good Iraqi folks who helped in the capture sure helped make their day, tho! :) -

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein should have put up a fight or committed suicide, stunned Iraqis said Sunday after watching images of their fallen leader, haggard and humiliated, in American custody.

As news of his capture spread across the country, celebratory shooting erupted in Baghdad's streets, soldiers cheered and victims of his tyranny thanked the United States. Many said it marked a new beginning for Iraq.

But for some, his capture was a blow to hopes for Saddam's triumphant return, and his peaceful surrender was seen as a stain on Arab honor.

"He swore before the war that Iraqis would fight America, and then he didn't fire a single shot," said Kassem Shelshul, a 28-year-old chauffeur living in Baghdad. "We expected him to commit suicide or resist," he said after watching video of the captured dictator.

It was a publicly humiliating end to a leader who for 30 years presented himself to his people only in the most monumental terms. Video released by the U.S. military showed the bearded, wild-haired leader in custody, submitting to a doctor probing his mouth with rubber-gloved hands. Though U.S. officials said Saddam had a pistol with him when he was caught, he didn't use it.

Iraqis were shocked that the man they feared for three decades was found hiding in a hole and gave up without a fight.

"For the last 35 years Saddam Hussein presented himself as a lion against the Americans and the West and now today they found him like a mouse," said Laad Hamadi, an Iraqi civil engineer. "He didn't fight for his country, he didn't even fight for himself."

"He killed my son Mohammed and he tortured his people," 40-year-old Halem al-Jassen said as she celebrated in the street. "Thank God for the United States."

You're Welcome, Halem. God Bless You and Yours.

Bullies are basically cowards. The thought of pain is absolutely abhorent to them. No way would he have committed suicide. I'm very glad he's caught. I hope this will at least contribute to some partial closure to this mess.

This is the best thing that has happened since GWB landed on the Abraham Lincoln.

The capture has immense symbolic capital that, for the first time, make the Iraqis able to start a new chapter and move on.

It seems Saddam has been disarmed now, two AK47S and a pistol. Mission accomplished ;)

.... absolutely nothing in the greater scheme of things, except to help Bush bolster support for a flagging campaign. Hussein was captured with no communications equipment, not even a cellphone, which means that he wasn't 'running' any part of the Iraqi resistance from his hole in the ground. There is also speculation that he was turned in by resistance forces, who wanted to get him out of the way because he was a constant distraction to the cause they want to promote and a deterrent to recruitment. And Mike Burn makes a good point; what effect is the public humiliation of someone who was, like it or not, a bona fide Arab political leader going to have on the extremists, the resistance and the Muslim world in general? The Bush administration, being what it is, has two modes of operation: stupid and very stupid.

agree to it all. The capture of sadam, while wonderful and all of it, doesnt detract from the fact that this war is absolute bullshit and bundle.

Now can the world send someone to seek out Dubya and capture HIM before he kills more innocent civilians and children?

questionnaire - "Hussein was captured with no communications equipment, not even a cellphone, which means that he wasn't 'running' any part of the Iraqi resistance from his hole in the ground."

That's nothing but a "hopefull assumption" on your part. It also said he had $750,000 in US dollars lying around. What was that for? To line his hole-in-the-ground with? He had plans once the man-hunt blew over. And if he ever stayed in one place long enough, you might be able to make the claim you did. But with him moving from place to place aided by his tribal family...who knows what kind of communications he had? He would have to have some, or he never would have stayed ahead of the US search for long.

questionnaire - "what effect is the public humiliation of someone who was, like it or not, a bona fide Arab political leader going to have on the extremists, the resistance and the Muslim world in general?"

In the way he was caught, like a rat in a hole (not the lion he proclaimed himself to be), I would say it gives all the extremists a second thought as to what they were fighting for.....think about it. What Burns said is just a way of trying to poke another stick in the eye of the US....and nothing more. The question is, why, Mike? What have you REALLY got against the US? Whatever it is, THAT is what is apparently at the heart of most of your posts in this particular forum. That much, at this point, is clear.

HKRC - Now can the world send someone to seek out Dubya and capture HIM before he kills more innocent civilians and children?

OK. Let's take a count. How many dead bodys for Bush, and how many for Saddam? And then lets have a seperate category for the "numbers tortured in front of their families", and another for the numbers of "own countrymen gassed". Bush is not straight with the US and the world (what politician is), but he is also not in the same category as Saddam.

HKRC - "agree to it all. The capture of sadam, while wonderful and all of it, doesnt detract from the fact that this war is absolute bullshit and bundle."

Just be happy he was caught, and stop trying (like Mike) to always throw a stick in the polka. :lamp
