To bring about harmony within the independent community again?
Some people believe that when mp3.com died the community fragmented off so bad that there is now, no way to bring it back together. Others think that if we combine several bulletin boards and not have so many, that would do the trick ...
What do I think ? Well, I think all the different places have their niche, I know alot of people who go to like 30 or 40 boards a day, yeah that is a lot .. I do like 4 .. ha ha ha .. I think it would be nice to have a place again, that was like middle ground, where most everyone went .. as well as going to the other places they hang ... it would be nice to see some of the old faces we knew from the mp3 boards ..
What it boils down to is, I really miss the sense of harmony there was back then ... yes there was alot of fighting and so forth, but there was still harmony ...
what would it take to make that happen again ? is it possible ?
discuss....

I dunno Drooly .... sometimes I think it is and others, it feels like nothing but a huge cluster of garbage ....
I have to go to 4 different places to see all my friends .. there is no place where we can all go and come together ... it would be cool if there was ....

Well, indeed the community "fragmented off".
As far as my observations go I would say it fragmented off into the amateurs vs. the "professionals".
You hardly see any artist/band member from self announced "professionals" showing up on any board we all know now. What has gone is the "we" factor. Nowadays everybody looks for "selling, selling, selling, #1, "me", "us"" instead of being interested in global exchange of new indie music.
Many artists were rather shocked seeing their music vanishing from their global #1 platform (MP3.com was simply the #1) and ceased to try out any new platform. They decided rather to look for own domains (i.e. MyXYZband.com) and do their own thing. That a huge portion of the former MP3.com catalogue were signed up by managers or promoters instead of doing it themselves contributed to the state of affairs.
I do not see the variety of BB-Boards as being the problem, it is the tenor of many artists who thought "they make it" through MP3.com. After the bubble bursted they try to "make it" on VH-1, Launch Yahoo.com or I don't know where.
Many artists who were on the old MPPP boards wouldn't have been there if the boards wouldn't have been under the #1 MP3.com roof. Who should find a EZ-Board? I have problems to find the Blah-Blah board using the "search" function of EZ-Board though.
Indeed there is a scene of steady posters and BB-addicts like myself who will always be around. Unfortunately many BB-Boarders became very 'cliquish' after the MPPP boards went away and concentrated on flame wars and the art of insulting instead of building a community. I know more than one board where a new poster who posts "check my band" or "check my new song" is banned right away, posts being edited as "SPAM!" or I don't know what. Those communities should rethink this unconstructive policy incl. "registered users only" crap.
You don't attract the people this way as well as it is counterproductive to found a "busy" board solely on "kissy, kissy" and "you play me and I play you" routines.
The new CNET site is somewhat "cold", new song approvals too slow than that anybody would promote CNET sites in the first place and there are also song upload limits and no lo-fi/hi-fi streaming. Not only because of that the CNET boards are lacking action, it is also the problem that they seem to be overmoderated at times (i.e. signatures gone) in favor of the same old same old troublemakers incl. the lame "freedom of speech" argument, who have nothing else in mind than blaming and insulting somebody. You don't see that here for example, because the anons know that the mods on this board can perfectly distinguish between the usual crap routine and simply new people looking with a fancy language for new contacts driven by the interest for other people's music and the possibilities of online collabs and gig possibilities, meet up's etc.
So this being said, I don't think that the cliques will come together on any EZ- or PHP board. IF, then they will do on a new "moneymaking" OMD site (not in sight HAHAHAHA) or any other hip OMD platform. One of the biggest problems of the "cliques" is, that they are not very open for discussions with new people. That's something you will at least here, on BLAH BLAH, not likely experience.

I just wondered what everyone elses views were on this subject .. didn't make it to get lectured ... just thought it would be a good discussion ... heh
