Living on the other side of the Planet, I'm curious about these things...
First of all.. - I wonder why there is so little Music from Japan on-line...
(I totally love traditional Japanese Music....)
I also wonder about the relationship between the Chinese and the Japanese....
They seem so close geographically... - yet I sense a huge distance between them Culturally...
I almost sense a mutual animosity there...
Am I wrong?
If I'm right, please explain it to me...
If I'm wrong, please explain it to me........
Stuff like that really intrigues me...

Drooly, I wish you would come down here to experience it. So many countries, so many ethnicities, and with it all the different cultures, cuisines, faces, architecture, even massages accupressure, accupunture, thai massages; ayurvedic, homeopathic, Chinese medicine... oh, did I mention the food? yummm. Thai food is likely the best in the world IMHO - if you can tolerate a bit of heat! I love Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese... not much of a fan of Singaporean or Malaysian cuisine cause it seems to be a mix of indian and chinese, without a good ending.
I find that people living in their original countries are far more progressive than the same race people who've lived abroad for many years. For example, India and China are evolving every day, and so the culture and living styles of people are evolving too; I know some Indians who've migrated for many years who are some 50 years behind the times - they've stuck to the indian traditions as they remember it (arranged marriages, same "caste" marriages, dowrys, and whatever else) while in india, things are far more easy going now.

Actually, I find male performers more interesting to watch but I do love bands with "girl" singers.
The Muffs
Letters to Cleo
The Sugercubes/ Bjork.. etc....

Damn....for a minute there I thought you were talking about New Orleans, but then I noticed "Cajun", "Creole", and "CoonAss" were not present....

Here ya go, bro...
Quote:
The origin of the term is said to have come from the French word "conasse". During the Second World War, many Cajun men served in the armed forces. When in France, many of the French heard the Cajuns speaking in a French that was both very old and in a French that had some very odd words. The Frenchmen called the Cajuns "conasse", which translates to "a very low-grade prostitute". I would think this comes from the fact that, although they spoke a form of French, the Cajuns weren't real Frenchmen.
Of course, the "American" servicemen heard "conasse" as "CoonAss". In a world where "RedNeck" is heard often, "CoonAss" fits right in. Just like RedNeck, it wasn't originally used as a term of endearment. But many Cajuns carry it as a description of themselves as good as any other. In Louisiana, you can find vehicles with bumper stickers reading "Registered CoonAss" or "I'm a CoonAss, Me!" Wide spread use came about during the oil boom in Louisiana during the 60's and 70's.
As I grew up, Cajun and CoonAss were synonyms for uneducated and uncouth. Now, the wonders and beauty of the Cajun culture are being experienced world wide. I carry the name CoonAss.com as a reminder of how our culture nearly disappeared and how we as a people have taken the bad traits outsiders associated with being Cajun and have turned them into something good.
WHY COONASS??
ACADIAN-CAJUN HISTORY
"A very low-grade prostitute"?? Now wasn't that nice of the Frenchmen to name their Louisiana Acadian (via Canada) brothers like that. A$$holes.
I'm about 50% CoonAss myself. The rest is Scottish, Scandinavian, and Cherokee Native American.
A Mutt, if you will, Drooly....
